34 weeks

How far along: 34 weeks 1 day.
Total weight gain: The scale and I are no longer friends!
Maternity clothes: I got 2 new shirts (one pictured above) and a pair of khaki capris this past week :)
Sleep: I sleep pretty good. I wake up throughout the night with my arm or leg asleep from the position I was sleeping in but I just change position and go back to sleep!
Best moment this week: 1) Taking maternity pictures- I will post them as soon as they are in!
2)Birthing class. I was terrified to go. I was for sure that I would leave traumatized, but it was actually very informative. And, Mahlon was able to learn how to push, which seeing made the class totally worth it!
Labor signs:  At my appointment yesterday Dr. Gass said that he is head down and should not change from this position before birth! Yay! He also said he was very pleased with the way my pregnancy had progressed and was impressed with my low blood pressure (112/60- I've always had very low blood pressure). He even complimented me on the fact that I did not have any stretch marks yet :)
On a side note, here is a comical conversation between Dr. Gass and I yesterday:
Dr. Gass: "Are you having any contractions yet?"
Me: " Ummm, I don't think so...I'm guessing I would know if I was so let's go with no."
He just laughed and scheduled me to come back next week when he will check to see if I am making any progress towards labor. YIKES!! That means it's getting close to time for Harrison to make his arrival!
Movement: He moves slower than before, I assume because he is running out of room in there! He still moves, but his movements are more like rolls and stretches as opposed to the summersaults he was turning a few weeks back.
Gender: Boy
Name: Harrison Michael Cowan
Belly button in or out? Flat
Weekly wisdom: Drink lots of water, get plenty of exercise and avoid salty foods as well as sitting for long periods of time (like 6 hours at a PD) and your feet will not swell! Also, slap on some Palmers Cocoa Butter Lotion for Stretch Marks. Many women and doctors alike will say that no lotion prevents stretch marks. I can not say either way, however I have used the Palmers lotion throughout my whole pregnancy and so far, no stretch marks.
Milestones: His skeleton continues to harden this week and he accumulates layers of fat under his skin to help him regulate his own body temperature outside the womb.
In 3- 4 weeks (depending on your doctor) he will be considered full term and the chance of him needing to stay in the neonatal care unit will be very small.
If born between 34-37 weeks he would need neonatal care for the further development of his lungs, however all other organs are developed enough to function on their own.
Milestone for mommy: I did clip and paint my own toenails this past weekend! I was pretty impressed!

Banned!

Think they want in the house?
They probably do, but they are now banned from the house!
I know, I'm such a mean pet owner.
But, let me explain.
I swept the floors (living room and kitchen/dining room) on Saturday. They were nice and shiny clean.
Today, this is what I swept up from the floors:
Ugggh! Disgusting!
A little less than 3 days worth of hair and dirt.
I blame the cute little faces in the photo above.
I know they can't help it, however there is no way in this world I would ever put our son down to play on a floor that had that much animal hair on it. Nope, no way!
So starting today- no more animals in the house!

Look what followed us home

In an effort to stay healthy (and slightly in shape) I make every attempt to go for a walk twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. During my morning walks it nothing out of the ordinary for all the neighborhood dogs to come out and greet me. Some will walk with me the whole time and one in particular will walk me home. For the most part, I am not accompanied by any animals during the evening walk.
Last night was an exception however.
Husband and I were enjoying a nice quiet walk through the neighborhood when we heard this puny little "meow" coming from behind us. When we turned around, there was the cutest little kitten doing his very best to keep up with us. We looked around to see if there were any other cats- which there were not, pet the little kitten and continued walking. A few steps later, the kitten was right under Mahlons feet! He followed us the entire time we were walking, all the way back to our house, up the front porch steps and right in the front door as if he owned the place! So needless to say, we now have a kitten.
Meet nameless boy kitten -everyone knows its hard for new additions to get a name around this place :)
I do have to admit, he is pretty stinking cute!
You may be wondering how Orson is dealing with the new addition.
Well, he likes the kitten just fine.
He enjoys smelling him and chasing him under the deck.

The kitten, however, does not like Orson.

As you can obviously see.
Haha! I'm sure he will warm up sooner or later!
As for now, kitten spends the day playing with a ball of twine

and snuggling with Mahlon.
I'd say he picked a good home :)

Just Because

From my Husband
Just because.
It's another charm for my Pandora bracelet.
This one is a dog in a dog house.

**This Pandora charm bracelet has become a very frivolous indulgence of mine. I blame my friends, if their bracelets wasn't so darn cute I would have never wanted one :)

H is for Harrison part 2

I am very thankful for the time that I have had off this summer! It has allowed me to get ready for Harrison's arrival at my own pace, no rushing around last minute trying to organize drawers, wash all the new clothes and bedding, or decorate.
Speaking of decorating,I have finished the letters that were in the scrabble and H is for.. blogs from last week.
Here they are!
I just love them!
After the paint had dried on all the letters I hot glued matching animals to them, handy husband mounted them to the wall and I decorated around them with wall clings that match the bedding :)
Next on the list of things to do...attend baby showers!
Yay!
A special thanks to my Mom and sister-in-law for all their hard work planning and organizing these showers. Mahlon, Harrison and I really appreciate it!

31 weeks

How far along? 31 weeks 3 days :)

I can remember ordering this Warren Elementary t-shirt in a medium at the end of the school  year thinking that it would fit for the first part of the upcoming school year when I am 36-40 weeks pregnant. Ha!
Total weight gain: 26 pounds. Yikes!
Maternity clothes: I will be needing to invest in some more before school starts back thats for sure!
Sleep: I sleep great! As long as the bedroom is nice and cold :)
Best moment this week: Deciding on a name!
Labor signs: None yet.
Movement: Tons! I can tell that he is getting much stronger!
Gender: Boy
Name: Harrison Michael Cowan
Belly button in or out? In still.
Weekly wisdom: Drink lots of water :) It helps keep swelling, headaches and leg cramps away!
Milestones: He is accumulating more fat, sleeps in more regular cycles, and his digestive system is all set and ready to go!

H is for...

Harrison

Yes,after 8 months of deliberation we have decided on a name!
Harrison Michael Cowan.
These are the letters from yesterday's post Scrabble!
Before you think that I am oh so creative, let me confess!
I did not think of this on my own!
I was looking for jungle print letters to order on Etsy that will hang above his crib and came across many cute designs.
The only thing not cute about them was their price :)
So, instead of spending $100 on wall letters, I took a trip down to Hobby Lobby and got everything I needed for $16. That's more like it!
It's not perfect- but inexpensive and cute!
Now Handy Husband just has to figure out how we are going to hang them :)

Happy 4th of July!

Mahlon and I decided to host a 4th of July cookout for both sides of our family this past weekend.
We were very anxious as to how this would turn out for a couple of reasons.
1) We had never hosted anything-ever.
2) Our immediate family, that you would of course invite over for a cookout, consist of a lot of people!

After much list making, grocery shopping, rearranging of furniture and decorating we were ready!
We had all the makings of a great 4th of July cookout.

Food
We train our grill masters at a young age!
